SOAPSTONE and Rhetorical Analysis of Tone
Gail Collins illustrated an article entitled, "Bye, Bye, John Boehner". Collins may have wrote this article to draw back the attention that was placed on John Boehner and his retirement because people have fail to realize that life goes on and everyone's life is at the hands of the government. This article was created to re-focus the attention on the problems that will still appear once John Boehner retires. The article targeted those who all in favor John Boehner. The author wanted readers to let go of John Boehner because at the end of it all, he may forget about the well being of the government. Collins asserts that "Boehner won't care. No sirree, he'll be back in Reading, Ohio, peacefully carving the turkey.......now he's hanging up his hat" (Collins 4). The article is defines that John Boehner will be retiring. Collins writes in a sarcastic tone through the lines of "Bye, Bye, John Boehner" (Collins 1), "Farewell, John Boehner, farewell" (Collins 1), "Good times, all" (Collins 1), and "Boehner won't care.No sirree,....." (Collins 4).
